About us
SURG is voluntary group run by and for its 300+ members, who lead our walks and organise our socials. They are supported by the committee, which is elected at the group's Annual General Meeting every October.
The Ramblers' Association
We are part of the Ramblers' Association, Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking and to improve conditions for all walkers.
- Locally, we work alongside other Surrey Ramblers' groups, especially SAWW.
- Nationally, we are part of a growing network of Hike 20s & 30s groups.
We also work to support the Ramblers' campaigns at both local and national level. Recently this has included:
- joining other Surrey groups to celebrate the centenary of local walking-guide writer "Walker Miles",
- protecting and promoting local footpaths through the national Use Your Paths campaign,
- supporting the South Downs Campaign to include the Western Weald in the new South Downs National Park.
Find out more
You can find out more about the current committee and their roles on the committee members pages, or you can email us if you have any questions about the group.
But the best way to find out more about us is to come on one of our walks or share a drink with us at one of our socials. We look forward to meeting you!
